Located in the beautiful Armagh countryside, the farm has been in the wider family for generations and came to me unexpectedly in 2016. After a difficult couple of years and after much thought and prayer, I knew I wanted to turn this huge privilege for us, into something which would honour God and bless others.

I believe I get my love of flowers from my Granny, with whom I spent many precious hours as a child, learning and ‘helping’ as she prepared flowers for market bouquets. She taught me so much about nature and was always a great encourager. Special memories for me!

As a florist, one wedding I created the florals for got me thinking. It involved locally grown blooms, not the usual imports, and I was impressed by the vase-life and the amazing scent. The idea of ‘growing our own as the seasons change’ took root and grew!

We planted, watered and began trialling various flowers. As blooms began to appear where once cows grazed, I marvelled at how the dream of a field of flowers was becoming a reality.

So, 2018 was the year of experiments, it was lovely to see Larkspur and Asters, zingy Zinnias, smiling Sunflowers  and many others, making a colourful splash in the field. Sweet Peas, in particular, seemed to strike a chord with people. I loved giving bunches of them away and hearing about the happy childhood memories their perfume brought back.

 

Now, it is time to move forward. We have been very conscious of God’s Grace all along the journey to the ‘start-line’. Indeed, with the farm being on a hill, there was only one name we could give it - GRACEHILL FLOWER FARM.
